LIMASSOL / COPENHAGEN & CALIFORNIA
SEPTEMBER 2016
openhagen based Propulsion Dynamics and Limassol based OSEAN 360 have signed an agreement to work together in the Greek and Cypriot maritime markets, to improve energy efficiency related to hull and propeller condition with Propulsion Dynamics’ unique CASPER® Service.
Pepy Orphanidou and Maria Roussou, founders of OSEAN 360 see many synergies in combining the sales and marketing of the CASPER® Performance Algorithms and Reports with OSEAN 360 clientele.
Daniel Kane, Vice President of Propulsion Dynamics proudly looks back to year 2003 and the since then over 3,000 ship-years experience of over 10,000 CASPER Reports produced. On average a 5% improvement in consumption is materialized when the CASPER® reports and unbiased analyses are acted upon and measurable results are evident within 2 years. According to Mr. Kane “Big Data is only half of the answer in improving ship performance, the total answer is in a Grey Box approach with in-depth hydrodynamic analysis combined with human intelligence applied to this sizeable data. Further, there needs to be a policy tailored to the shipowner / charterer on how to utilize the CASPER readings in day to day ship management, otherwise big data is just that … big data”.
Propulsion Dynamics develops and maintains state-of-the-art Performance Mathematical Models and became the first company to offer outsourcing of Hull and Propeller Performance Analysis as a turnkey service utilizing manually or automatically collected VPMS (Vessel Performance Monitoring System) data. The CASPER Service has made “hull performance” a common technical topic and continues to pioneer through hydrodynamic analysis of readily available performance figures from the various monitoring systems on-board; their analysis yields a rating system for hull and propeller condition and the consultative development of technical policies for improving fleet performance.
CASPER (or Computer Assisted Ship & Propeller Performance) is a service to analyze a vessel’s hull and propeller performance and relate this to actual Fuel Oil Consumption. This is achieved by analysing data alone; the CASPER algorithm does not require additional gauges or fittings nor a particular monitoring system installed.
