PERFORMANCE  OPTIMIZATION: THE SPEED-POWER KPI

The “Speed-Power” KPI reflects how the current roughness and fouling of the hull and propeller cause expended propulsion power to increase for a certain speed. This is called the Performance of today and relates only to hull and propeller (following corrections made for wind, waves, sea current, draft/trim).

CASPER (Computer Aided Ship Performance) i.e. algorithm uses a colour rating to show if the vessel’s Performance of today is better or worse when compared to the Dynamic baseline.  The Dynamic baseline is founded on statistics and determines the Expected added resistance of today due to the specific age of the vessel and specific days out of dry-dock. It takes into account the type of vessel and fleet.

The Performance of today is rated as:

Green = good = added resistance below baseline

Yellow = fair = added resistance 0-5% above baseline

Red = bad = added resistance more than 5% above baseline
